Audio Format
MP3, since, adopted as a universal format, supported by all players. Other formats such as Windows Media Audio (WMA), Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and WAV are also becoming popular in the recent times and gaining their ground in these devices. Even open source formats, such as Ogg, Vorbis are also being included in some of the players.
Image Formats
Most common image format available with the MP3 players in the markets is the JPEG format for viewing images. Some players are also including additional formats like GIF, PNG, and TIFF. However, softwares for conversion of images in one format to other are also available and are being included in the players.
Video Formats
Players in general support formats such as Windows Media Video (WMV), AVI, MPEG-4 video format; a relatively new format, for playing video. Manufactures are also including more and more players to increase the acceptability and universality of their product. Players compatible with video formats DivX open-source format Xvid are also available in market. Meanwhile, many types of software are also available in the market to facilitate conversion of video of in format to other. This software is also available free on websites. Manufacturers are also providing software which can rip apart part of video and audio from CD and facilitates its transfer to the players in particular format.
Apart from audio, video and image formats, audio output power and sound quality is one of the important factors, which decide the position of a product in the market. Other important factors that allure customer toward the product are memory capacity, weight, size and shape of the player, display size, wireless connectivity, and so on.
